Help With Focus Tdci Issues

Featured Replies

I have posted on here previously, wanna go again & see if I can get answers, here goes... I have a 09 1.8 tdci Focus Titanium, bought 5 weeks ago 270m from where I live, drove fine on test & fine on way back, the following day drove fine going to work, finished work & had some driving around to do, it was then I noticed the problem, at about 1800-2000 revs the car started coughing & spluttering & losing power, due to this issue i now have no confidence in it when pulling away at a junction/roundabout as I can't be sure it will go when I put my foot down, left it for just over a week & realised it only does it when engine warms up, then had engine flush & oil/filter change & a diagnostic check which was clear although it was noticed one of the fuel injectors was noisy, took car away & still had the problem, then under the warranty I had the injector done & another diagnostic check, still nothing, drove car away & again still had the problem, put some fuel additive in & some premium diesel & ran car for a few days & then had fuel filter change & some more premium fuel, & surprise surprise It still has the !Removed! issue, running out of ideas now!

any smoke?

car either thinks it isn't or actually isn't getting enough air / fuel, or the car is detecting other issues which is limping it.

Randomly changing stuff is just going to cost you money, if it were me id have my ELM327 device connected up and recording what is going on, rule out stuff, once you done that you will hopefully narrow down where the problem is...

other folk on here know a lot more and will be better placed to help but if you have a ELM327 device, you might be able to help narrow it down.

Possible EGRV issue ?

Have you considered a Terraclean ?

No smoke & if it was egr surely it would come up on diagnostic check?

Not all EGRV issues will illuminate the EML - it may be worth taking off for an inspection & clean - is the EGRV blanked ?

  • Author

I assume not tho haven't checked.

What does the ELM stand for Dee_82?

To eliminate any existing or future possible EGRV issues I'd blank it a.s.a.p. - stainless steel plates are only around £ 5 off e-bay & this alone may cure your issue

I have read different reviews on the blanking of the egr, will it not cause the engine management light to come on?

Yes, it may well do, BUT, that in itself is not an issue at all

An EGRV is the root of all evil on a diesel ( as well as the DPF, if fitted )
