Where's The Fuse For The Front And Rear Fogs? - Sportka

Featured Replies

Hi all, I need to get my rear and front fogs working for the MOT test but for the life of me I can find the fuse for either and nothing is mentioned in the fuses section under fuses, can anyone help?

Not sure if relevant but the light on the button for rear fogs doesn't illuminate when pressed however the front fogs button does. But as I said neither front nor back fogs light up!

I even checked every fuse on the relay panel and they're all fine.

I did see a fault diagnostic page for a streetka which mentioned [CHECK fuse F27 (20 A) (CJB).]

http://workshop-manuals.com/ford/streetka_2003.5_01.2003-07.2005/mechanical_repairs/4_electrical/417_lighting/417-01_exterior_lighting/description_and_operation/diagnosis_and_testing/fog_lamps_vehicles_built_up_to_02-2005_convertible/#G325486p1

Does' anyone know if such a fuse exists on the streetka? And if so where it would be located?

You need to get a hold of the Ford TIS manual on CD.

Its on page 417-01-00-012, Exterior Lighting, Rear fog lamps, Sportka, LHD

Its either the relay, diode or the fuse.

From a quick look at the diagram if the switch light isnt on then its the fuse under the dashboard!

If you arent sure just pull em all out (20 amps - yellow ones) check em all there are only 4 in total - give em a rub with sandpaper before ye put them back in even if they are ok - it always helps as everything gets covered in moisture in a soft top and i have seen good fuses measure bad due to corrosion on the metal.

Here ive cut the right section out of the Ford TIS for you but you would be better to buy a copy off ebay its very useful for this nightmare car as there are no Haynes manuals or any other.

Rear Fogs

At the back of the board are attached the relays and another set of fuses, you have to remove the main fuse panel by removing two screws to get at these fuses f23 - f34.

Thanks. Well that was fun, for the life of me I couldn't get the fuse box out so awkwardly in a contorted position reached my hand inside and checked each fuse, all fine.

Looking at the second picture would you happen to know which relay is for the rear fog light. And also the diode. (and if possible front one while i'm at it!)

Do the front fogs need to work for MOT if you have them fitted?

Thanks

Front fog lights are not required by law so they do not test them

You could have googled that dude!

True. Can you help with the other questions? Also seems i disturbed something when i pulled fuse box out and battery and transmission light are on, any ideas what i need to check?

Oh dear - you need to remove the fusebox properly - its only the wiring loom preventing you moving it out but if you move it to the left (after removing the two screws that hold it in of course) and twist it comes out.

Let me guess , you didnt disconnect the battery first?

You have probably blown a fuse or damaged a wire.

With electrics be gentle , dont tug and if it wont move then take your time.

I bet you lost your temper and pulled it or crossed a couple of wires and with the battery attached well....

Done it myself , forgot to disconnect the battery and poof................mistake!!!

How do i know which relay belongs to the fogs? Also is there an easy (safe) way to test a relay once I find the relevant one? I can't relay make sense of that wiring chart above compared to the actual fuse box! BTW I tried to free the loom earlier but still cannot see where it twists off. It's a mountain of wires behind there! Any chance you could clairify where to release it? Thanks

Not really it should come out with gentle manoeuvering unless you have a wire caught on something - get a torch and lie on your back underneath and work out where its snagged.

Press the fog switch - you should hear a relay click - i think its the first one - failing that take em all out one by one and test them with a mutlimeter.

You arent very good with google are you lol

Well cmon be honest - did you disconnect the battery first?

Oh and best to do it before you have smoked a jay....lol

Haha. Ok will try that. No light comes on on button so have to test the relay I guess. I didn't disconnect the battery no but was only checking fuses at the time. Thanks for your help on this, will see how I get on!

The relay you are looking for isn't in the fusebox, its located on the Heater Control Module (as shown in the diagram) and its possible that the HCM may be the problem as this has the control circuit on it as well as the relay.

I have attached the diagnostic procedure (Pinpoint Test AM) which gives a step by step guide to fault finding.

o The rear fog lamp is inoperative
Possible Source(s):
§ Fuse
§ Circuit(s)
§ Heater control module
§ Rear lamp assembly
Action(s) to take:
§ Go to «Pinpoint Test AM»

It looks like it's the heater control Module in that case however can anyone actually point out which is fuse F29 15A as the normal fuse box only goes up to F22 i think!

The normal fusebox goes up to 22 but behind it are the other fuses - you need to take it out - see my picture no.2.

Dan62 is probably right but i would start with the basics and test the fuse first.
Although F29 on my car is a 10 amp - 2nd from the bottom far right of the photo.

I searched for an hour for that diagram couldn't find it anywhere!

Anyway thanks guys for your help. Ya must have saved me a good £60, turned out to be the Heater control module a replacement for which I got from the local scrappy.

Good thing is the rad fan works as normal now when hot and the a/c button works now! MOT tomorrow now. Just gave her a good thrashing on the motorway with some engine fuel cleaner to get her through the emission part.

Engine fuel cleaner - save some money - take all the spark plugs out and spray some wd40 into the cylinders and leave it overnight - does a much better job than Redex!

Glad you got it fixed and now know a bit more about the car.

You can go and smoke a jay now - you have earned it.

lol

Excellent I'll do that.

  • Author

Excellent. Passed MOT and after changing plugs, air filter and doing what you said emissions went from 0.5 to 0.02.

WOW. Cheers Omendata.

No probs Keep your fingers crossed and smoke a bowl for me - its MOT day for my "Pregnant Skateboard" as well in a few weeks too!

lol

It's a bit like going to the dentist and asking how bad is it? .......You need fillings = MOT fail, and you're good for now = MOT pass!!

Especially when you take it to a low price ie £19.99 for an MOT garage and realise after many years that these garages a complete ripoff as they will never pass your car for an MOT - Usually failing it on emissions so it makes it very hard for you to fix it unless you have your own gas analyser.

And thats the truth Ruth!!!

Time for a christmas bowl......
