Do Focus Spoilers Do Anything?

Featured Replies

that's another pet hate of mine Tom, spot of rain, Fogs on, bit of mist, fogs on, heat haze on the road, fogs on, I could have sworn it was apart of the basics in driving lessons, don't put your fogs on unless you cant see a car 50 yards ahead of you. So i wonder at what point in life do people think its ok to blind everyone behind them and make it hard to see if they are slowing down

Seems to be fashion amongst youngsters to put front fogs on in all weathers too. Why?!

Anyone else think front indicators are starting to become less easy to see? Built into the headlamps which are fitted with a billion watt bulb, either everyones indicators are broken, or I just can't see them until the car is taking the exit off a roundabout (which I am waiting to pull onto) and I'm seeing the indicator from the side rather than the front. Separate units like in the mk1 focus are I guess more expensive, and don't look as good with the bright orange glass, but they are much more effective at showing others where you are going

less of an issue with projectors, less glare because theres no reflection going on, but yeah, this front fog light business is annoying, I suspect its because of the number of cars with DRLs, some in the same place as Fogs, what they fail to realise is that fron fogs are not DRLs and are not designed the same

Just come across this. And i know its not relevant at all to the topic title. But the last post, i've got to agree with you. Im 19. I hate when i see people my age driving round with fog lights on when its clear as day outside! Certain words for those sorts of people ;)

merc estate was behind me driving home tonight those drl are ****** dangerous they are almost blinding

I drive with my front fogs and sidelights on in dull weather, less glare then my dipbeams and better visibility. Not for me but for the other drivers im forced to share the road with. I want to make sure I'm seen. If its dark enough I need to see then or course I use dipped beam.

Probably a side effect from being a motorcyclist. Im acutely aware how many people drive in autopilot and look without seeing.

Dull weather is not suitable conditions for using fog lights.

They can only be legally used when visibility is deemed to be severely restricted.

I did use my rear fogs on monday driving from Exeter airport to Plymouth but the visibility was atrocious due to misty rain and a lot of spray which often reduced visibility to the levels of a blizzard.

I hate inproper use of fogs and do pull for them every time.

in my books, people who use fogs inappropriately are just too cheap to buy proper DRL's.

I agree with you 100% Clive. Too many chavs who think it's cool to drive on front fogs. I was surprised though, when we bought our first Focus, to find that the switching is arranged such that you can't have the rear fog on without the fronts but you can have the fronts without the rear. In my opinion in severely restricted visibility it's much more important to be seen from the rear.

I have very mixed feelings about DRLs. I'm now finding the chavs are driving on them at dusk instead of dipped heads so they don't dim and are more blinding than inappropriately used fogs.

Nice to see you two are in the Christmas spirit this morning!!

I must admit, I don't think I've ever been blinded by front fogs, for some reason I just think 'silly person' when I see them on un-necessarily though lol.

Not just chavs. Old people, Women too

I flash anybody who drives with foglights on when unnecessary, bulbs out, DRLs and no lights (aka, blinding lights to the front, no lights to the rear)

I flashed a 4x4 the other night. Matte black, covered in mud. DRLs on and no lights to the rear! He gave me the finger and vanished. moron

Fog lights on drives me crazy. You do not want to be in a car with me when I go past someone with fogs on lol

I think the spoiler on the Focus was more an attempt to reduce rain/dirt build up on the screen. Reasonably effective at motorway speeds (better than other cars of a similar size anyway).

As for fogs, I can count on 1 hand how often I've used them (other than checking bulbs - seeing as Ford couldn't be bothered to fit a bulb check system. Something my old Punto has...and it's nearly 16 years old!!)

I've used my fogs twice since February when I passed my test.. not that they make a difference. I've got a CORSA "friend" who drives everywhere with his on. Hes also done some pretty embarressing modifications that I can't be bothered to list. To start your imaginations.. red brake drums & stickers everywhere..

I've only heard of one good excuse for front fogs from a colleague which would probably be not technically legal and that is in poor weather at night her headlights are rubbish and like two candles at the front of the car, so she uses fogs to light up the edge of the road.

Otherwise I'll flash people using fogs. Especially in town. Although it is getting harder to determine true front fog use as the Vw group seem to have decided to use fogs for everything but what they are intended.

The new mini for example, it uses half of the fog lights as DRLs. At night due to the DRLs dimming but not going out it leads you to believe they have their foglights on! Why they couldn't have done what most other companies have done and gone for cold temperature LED DRLs!

Other than seriously foggy, the only other time ime used fogs is in deep snow at night, when you can't see the road illuminating the sides more makes it a little easier to see the verges, doesn't always work, a few years back I was in a small convoy at night driving at about 20 mph, when all of a sudden the two cars in front dropped their anchors. Turns out we were all driving on the verge itself, inches from a deep ditch, the lead car only realised when a road sign appeared directly in front of his right side head light :D
