Ford Focus 1.6 Tdci 2011

Featured Replies

Hi guys. Just need some advice. I have a 2011 focus diesel. It a nice car, just some teething problems. In the morning, cold mornings the car runs a bit rough, but once warm runs like a dream. it also Gives of white smoke. I have been told this is just condensation. Also it is worth adding diesel additives. Such as diesel injector cleaner, or are they just a waste of time. What do you guys recommend. I really like the car and really could do with some advice. Also I used do 100 miles a day, but know only do 10 miles a day.

Is it worth taking it for a long run on the motorway to get rid of the soot in the exhaust. Sorry if I have made any mistake.

Probably need a pcm update to cure the poor cold running.

There are many threads on the forum about problems with the 1.6TDCi. I don't have one - ours is a 1.8TDCi - but I'd say your rough running when cold could be duff glowplugs as I believe these may be kept on for a while to improve combustion while the engine is warming up. 10 miles per day is not ideal for your diesel especially if it involves two 5-mile journeys. It's bad for any diesel in terms of fuel consumption as it hardly has time to get properly warmed up but depending on the kind of driving, urban or rural, your DPF probably won't have a chance to regenerate and this will cause problems with blockage and back pressure. It's certainly worth while taking it for an extended motorway run to allow regeneration to complete.

My 1.6 petrol 55 plate ran a bit juddery and I took it for a really good run (motorway, duel carriageway) and it's been fine since,so with a diesel yes give it a good run and make the engine work

additives are always a good thing to use, some more so than others, I use BG products and ues shell vpower. nothing wrong with the 1.6 tdci if you look after it well, 6k oil changes, oil catch cans, blank off the EGR and "fix" the DPF. don't worry about the smoke, its not smoke.

No point owning a diesel if you are only doing short runs.I always use a fuel additive and regular oil changes at least every 6000 miles.Never had any engine problems in the 6 years of ownership so far.
