Jump starting a Fiesta

Featured Replies

Hiya guys. My problem relates to a 2009 Fiesta Zetec 1.25. My daughters boyfriend tryed to jump-start her car but got the terminals the wrong way round. Apparently there was a flash and some sparks. Now the car has ignition, but nothing on the starter. Any ideas please. Cheers, Pete.

Tell her to get another boyfriend that knows cars 😄

Fuses?

Check the fuses - guessing 1 might have blown.

I imagine that the battery is likely to have had a brutal time. If you measure the battery, what does it read? Will the headlights light brightly?

Thanks guys, thats what I am hoping. I cant get to try them for a couple of days, will let you know. Cheers, Pete

as stated above check all the fuses, also check that the earth track to the ecu has not burnt out but to be honest anything could have been spiked and damaged including the ecu itself, even if the leads had been attached correctly you should not jump start a car with a smart charge system as the alternator can instantly chuck 18 volts through the system and cause damage, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
