Going into reverse

Featured Replies

Hi all

Is it a know issue getting into reverse in a fiesta? Sometimes mine will go into reverse, I can see the white light reflecting so i know its in but then soon as i begin to move its like it slips out and it makes this very odd noise?

Yeah Fiesta is !Removed! useless for reverse, what I did when I had a Fiesta was select 1st, roll forward very slightly (I mean very slightly) then shift into reverse and bobs your uncle it's in.

Not had an issue on the Focus suspect it's because you have to lift up some thingy bob to select into reverse.

Common problem, nothing wrong. Mine slips out now and again (Usually when your trying to do something quickly/parallel park) and you just hear the big grinding noise.

To try and avoid it, stop completely before putting it into reverse - some people have said that putting it into 4th then into reverse will sometimes help it to stay in gear

Cheers for the advice pal

Read your manual, it recomends waiting 3 srconds before moving into reverse.

There is no synchro on reverse gear for the B5 gearbox fitted to the Fiesta.

Make sure you are at a complete standstill and not moving forwards at all. Give it a few secs with the clutch down and if it still won't go in put it in neutral, release and disengage the clutch then try again.

You soon get used to feeling when it has and hasn't gone in and adjusting accordingly.

cheers pal.

The Fiesta's are unfortunately known for their crunching reverse gear; this usually happens when you've been driving or going forwards, then shift immediately into reverse (I notice it most when maneuvering).

If you wait a while (as mentioned) it might not crunch. Sometimes though, it even crunches when I shift into reverse from neutral when I just start the vehicle for the first time.

I also have the B5 gearbox, I've have the car for a year now and have gotten used to it.

All the best with yours. :)
