Mk6 Fiesta ST?

Featured Replies

Afternoon,

Been offered one of these as a swap for the GTi6...

Anything I should check/look for?  It's fairly high mileage, over 100k at 8 years old.

I've had a Mk6 before but haven't had any experience with the ST engine.

Cheers

Tom

Can't say about the rest of it, but the engine is the 2.0 duratec, same as the mk2 focus, and the base on which my ecoboost was developed.

Mazda designed and a goodun afaik. I'm sure there will be things to look out for as with any engine/car though.

Yeah it's the engine I want to know about really, I'm quite familiar with the 'lesser' Mk6s lol.

Just want to know it's not going to need a full rebuild or something after 100k lol.  I guess not but seriously, any common faults would be good to know.  I'd also be interested to know if theres any decent and cheap remaps about for them, I've mapped loads of diesels but never a petrol lol...  Guessing its all £300+ though which is way out of budget.

I've got the 2.0 Duratec in my Mk2.0 Focus. I think it's a great engine and pulls really well - should do considerably better in a smaller Fiesta. Mine's done 75k and I've had no problems whatsoever. I had a Terraclean done last year and it made it just about as good as new. Remaps don't do a lot for the power output but they will change the throttle response. I got mine remapped by AMD and got a 5% increase in power (149bhp vs 142bhp), better throttle response, worse fuel consumption (probably around 5%) and an increased insurance premium. I don't regret it, as it has improved the car but it wasn't necessarily the most sensible of my mods! Tax is a bit hefty - think it was just over £200 last July.

Hope that's helpful.

Well I got it...and am pleasantly surprised with the performance!!

Tax is 230 a year which is the same as the gti6.  But my focus is only 30 quid so makes up for it lol.

Really pleased so far tbh!

I won't bother with a remap after all.

Look forward to seeing some photos soon. Enjoy!

Photos when it's clean lol!

Only problems (so far!) are that the key snapped in the ignition barrel so the barrel and key was replaced.  Central locking works but the key doesn't work in any outside barrels (oh and of course the boot popper doesn't work lol so cant get into the boot atm).  I could get another plain key cut from Ford fairly cheap but I'm wondering if I could programme one with Forscan to do CL and immobiliser so there's a proper spare?

Its not going to be clean before the weekend at least, so here are some dirty pics lol.  If anyone spots anything wrong please say haha!

Looking good, 2 lads at work have them and none have had any issues with them, they seem to be fairly bullet proof, just the usual seat tilt handles breaking front and rear. Engines appear to be good for high mileages..

Ah that's good to know, don't seem to be many high milers about, or at least not for sale, which did make me wonder.  Is it a cambelt or chain on these?  I assumed it was the same 2.0 as the Mk3 Mondeo which uses a chain but not sure?

Lol, the drivers seat tilt handle is broken in this one, thought it was pretty common!  Unless it's cheap and easy to fix I'll probably leave it as it looks fine and the passenger one still works atm.

Chain,

Does it matter which standard stereo I fit in this?  The square one with green backlight seems a lot cheaper than the rounded one with red backlight like I have in the focus.

I want a clock in there (guessing it'll be on the dash computer when I fit the right stereo) and use of steering controls...as well as a stereo with radio signal lol, I really hate aftermarket head units lol.

Also, what's the easiest way to change the PAS fluid?  Its boiled as usual so may be adding to the funny idle at low speed manouvres.
