Featured Replies

should be ok i guess, worth a go, ids is easy to navigate and use. others have used it on here with sucess by the sound of it.

Oh

Anything else I can try to fix the annoying idle, it's making me look a bit of an idiot stalling it when it randomly decides to drop several hundred rpm for no reason lol.

Hmm, I had been wondering about the clutch switch...worth changing?

IMG_20160614_103327901_HDR.jpg

Check it on ids, datalogger, engine, would have thought clutch switch is avaliable to view operation.

  • Author

Yeah I thought that as well but it isn't on there.

In fact I'm sure there are less parameters on there than there are FORScan which seems odd!

FORScan is on the other laptop though so didn't have the chance to check that as well this morning.

On the plus side there was a GEM update to do, which went fine...though I have no idea what it was for lol.

  • Author

Hmm that's odd, I get the same fault shown in forscan for the clutch switch, but it appears to work fine!?

I'm running out of ideas now lol.

Anyone got any further ideas?

I like the car but this issue is really frustrating.  Problem is it wants to stall at junctions when I put the clutch down or lift it, and that's just good enough when there are a few notorious junctions round here.  I can deal with it messing about in car parks but I'd say its actually dangerous elsewhere.  I'm currently pulling away with like 50% throttle and bit of tyre screech atm to make damn sure it doesn't stall at these particular junctions but surely Ford didn't expect people to have to do that when new lol!?

There are loads of threads on this exact issue all over the net but none have been resolved - I had hoped it's because people don't often post after the issue has been fixed but I'm starting to think it's actually unfixable.

So, have sort of fixed this!  Shoulda tried the easy stuff first lol...

Cleaned the TB, changed the air filter and PAS fluid yesterday and it's much better today.  Revs hang at 1500rpm with the clutch in with is fine, doesn't drop to anywhere near stalling level anymore and no bouncing revs either.  I guess the hanging revs may be solved by another TB reset but I don't want to risk it going back to how it was so will leave it as is for now haha.

So, the idle has slowly relearned to be crap again...ideal...

Sitting in stationary traffic it seems to have a 'blip' every few seconds that is noticeable on the rev counter as well as felt through the car.

It does the jumping idle when coasting every single time again as well.

No faults showing, no problems at all when on the throttle, just idle.  Anything else (cheap) I can try?  Would a new set of plugs make any difference, and if so where's the cheapest place to buy them, they seem pretty expensive even for standard ones!

I had this problem with my Megane and it was the MAP sensor.

Try giving it a clean first and if not try a new one.

So been driving the ST today and pretty happy with it tbh.

Only issue is the idle.  It actually idles OK but when dropping back to idle or between gears and slow speed it's dropping way too far to like 500rpm then massively overcompensating up to like 1500rpm before sitting steady around 1k.

Forscan showed no PCM fault codes at all.

Live data showed TPS works fine, pas pressure switch works fine, clutch switch works fine, coolant temp sensor and ambient air temp sensor work fine.  Only one that didn't seem to was the intake temp sensor which read 33c from cold for 10 mins of engine running with no change - I guess that's not right?  But would it cause these idle issues?

I assume these don't have an ICV as I couldn't find one in the live data list.  Bit there was so much other stuff in there I'm not sure if I should've been looking at any others?

I can't recreate this issue by just blipping the throttle either which doesn't help.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Tom

I got the same think when moving of in first gear gently it drops so much down then goes 1,5k what is that ? How to fix ??

Yeah the same me lol when I dont touch the gas its fine runs nicely once it decides that it want to drop when I touch the gas it goes like 1,5k sometimes stall

Apparently that bouncing idle when you're rolling in gear is normal due to a rubbish ECU, there doesn't seem to be a fix. I just don't believe that's how they left the factory though!?

But more annoying is the standstill idle now, kinda worried it might put the emissions out for MOT next month.  My friendly tester has moved away so I've gotta use an unknown test centre.

I'll have a look at the MAP, Daz - or is it a MAF on these?  I haven't even noticed lol.

Mine only does this sometimes and only when give it little gas when I give it a bit more its fine, and when idle its ok your does it even if you dont touch the gas ?

Ok so there's 2 problems with mine.

When rolling in gear the idle goes up and down between like 500 to 1500rpm.  This is apparently normal for these ST's!  It also overcompensates that much when lifting the clutch without enough gas (I'm too used to a diesel as well lol!).  All you can really do is give it what feels like too much gas to move off, and try not to roll without any gas - or just put up with it.  I tend to just put up with it now, but it does make me look like either I can't drive, or I'm trying to hurry people along when coasting up to crossings or behind people on single track lanes lol.

But when sitting stationary the idle is moving slightly only by about 50rpm either way but it's enough to feel through the car and can be heard as well.  This is the one that I think should be fixable, and may put the emissions over the limit.

On Etis it says mine is a MAF sensor so you might be right.

This morning tried to start the car up it did not start on the second go it did is that priblem ?

Hmm, it's not a problem I've had!  Were there any warning messages or the red light at the top flashing?

no nothing

No idea then, probably just a blip!

Maybe I need to keep an eye on it
