03 Ka Collection with 2 keys!?

Featured Replies

Hello!

I have just bought a 03 Ka Collection today (from a 2nd hand dealer) and I have been given 2 keys - one to open/unlock the car and another to use in the ignition to run the car

Is this normal? A quick google search has uncovered nothing and I was wondering if I would be able to get a new key which does both functions (run the car and open it). I have seen a few different 'blank' keys online and how to guides on how to re-program a new key by taking out the immobiliser chip etc, but I dont want to jump ahead and ruin the keys if I am wrong

Any help would be great - thanks!

Both keys should do everything.

Might of had locks or ignition swapped out at some point.

No they dont unfortunately  One key solely opens the doors and the other one only starts the ignition

Edit: I am thinking that if i a new key cut to match the door opening key (that key fits in the ignition but it wont turn/start) and get the immobiliser chip out of the other key and put them together in the same housing it should work? Or do I need to get my locks changed out on the car or something?

Sounds like Stoney is right - one is the Pats key used to reprogram and one is the normal key - pats key usually looks different - has a blue chip on it or it can be a red key.

But they both should open the car so it sounds like the key that doesnt open the car (the pats key?) which has come from another car with the ignition barrel.

Interesting....so the ignition barrel has been replaced at some point?

Is there anything I can do to unify these keys?!

Yes but it will be expensive from Ford £190.

Or you can do the reprogramming yourself if you are into electronics and computer hacking but it will still cost you for the blanks.

It depends on what key does what - which one is the PATS key - if only one remote unlocks the door then the ignition key is going to be problemmatic as its the one that needs programmed - or did you mean manually unlocking?
