Me and the Oil Filter Are Having A Disagreement :(

Featured Replies

So hey guys I found the issue in my car in the end. Turns out after removing the sump plug water came out of the water pump. So the water pump is faulty and will be replaced this week. Now however I find another problem. I am trying to change the oil in my car as it is pretty much pure black what was left. The sump plug was a nightmare but after some strength it came loose. Now however the oil filter has decided it would like to fight me and no matter what strength me or anyone puts on it it will not even turn. I have tried everything from grips, chains and even a proper tool that connects to a socket wrench. All I ever seem to do is dent or chip the paint off the filter.

Is there anyway on earth I can get this damn thing off. Spent two days fighting it now and im bored and my new one wants to be in its place XD

Any ideas guys

Thanks

Ryan

Knock a screwdriver through the filter and it should give more leverage to to turn it, it will be messy so have a container to catch any oil

Screwdriver will probably just rip the metal casing and then you'll be in a lot more trouble (not fun when that happens!).

I've got one of these and haven't failed to remove one yet, does a far better job than chains or grips! http://www.banggood.com/Adjustable-60mm-To-120mm-Oil-Filter-Removal-Tool-Strap-Wrench-For-Motor-Vehicle-p-1043500.html?currency=GBP&createTmp=1&utm_source=bing_cp&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=saul&utm_campaign=motor-GB

I had this happen to me some years ago.   In the end I gave the filter a sharp tap inwards on the end of the casing with a hammer and it freed it.
