New discs

Featured Replies

Just got the new discs on pagid plus pads all around driven like 5miles home and they are very weak is it normal will they improve as they should for little touch should brake but mine are not strong

You need to run them for a while to let them bed in. Until then don't brake too hard as you could warp the new disks. they'll get better as the miles go on. I found my Brembo disks/pads were better than my original ones after 500 miles.

did you read the 'sheet' that would have come with them? It will explain the running in procedure.

Ah okay I did think that just wasnt sure I will drive slowly to bed them in

You can drive normally but give yourself more time to brake to compensate until they do bed in

Also avoid holding the footbrake at traffic lights etc when you should use the handbrake, and try to avoid hitting cold puddles with hot brakes.

Pagids have a bedding in coating on the pads so bed in a bit quicker than others usually.

Discs do get hot...you wouldn't wanna touch them after a brisk drive.

Leaving a calliper hanging off a flexi like that isn't a great idea though.

My friend was installing them for me in garage

I'd expect between 200 and 500 miles to bed in both the discs and pads. Varies from brand to brand but as above they will get better over time

Yeah I take it easy for now

Yep not even for a minute or two should the callipers be allowed to hang down stressing the flexible brake pipe joints, could well lead to a leaking joint, then mot failure.

Far better to use string or wire coat hanger tied to the spring, then tied to the calliper.

I tend to use a hooked bungee cord...haven't seen a wire coat hanger for about 10 years!!

Old welding/brazing rods also work a treat

I found that using an infrared thermometer or just holding your hand close to the disc and checking each side can also let you know if the brakes need bleeding, I had to bleed my brakes over the weekend as I found that 1 disc was far hotter than the other. Now both discs are the same temperature when I do check them after a drive - but yeah, don't actually touch the discs!

Give them a few weeks to bed in etc, the pads always give off a lot of dust initially.

Guessing your mate added copper slip to the back of the pads? They will take a while to bed in, just take it slow and ensure that everything beds in properly - some pads have a break in coating on them plus chamfered edges to help with break in.
