HELP! FIESTA ELECTRICAL ISSUES

Featured Replies

Hello! I have a 2011 Ford Fiesta and have two problems. They might be related but I'm not sure. The first problem is the car is an automatic and about 15% of the time when below 1000 RPM will stall out and die. It restarts just fine but it happens when I'm coming to a stop.

My second problem is that I will be driving around like normaly and my radio will stop, immediately after that my headlights will flicker if they are on, I will get a check transmission light and the car will begin to struggle to keep moving and eventually pushing the gas stops making the car move forward. I have to coast to the side. When I restart the car everything starts up perfectly normal. Any idea what is going on with my car?!!

That sounds like low battery voltage. However, as it recovers immediately, it is probably not the battery, but the connections to it. There are fat wires from the battery, to both sides. Check the terminals at the battery are tight & look clean, then follow the fat wires (both sides), to check the connections at the other ends. The earth connections to the engine & body are possible suspects. Also feel the wires where they go into the terminals, they can fail inside the insulation, and feel floppy.

If these connections are ok, I recommend you get a diagnostic scanner (a generic OBD2 scanner will cover most engine faults), they are around £10, and very easy to use. There will be one or more codes (DTCs) behind that light, that will give some clue as to what is wrong.
