Gearbox issue?

Featured Replies

Hi, would appreciate a moment of your time for a bit of advice.

My 07 1.2 Fiesta's gear stick has felt spongy with a bit of soft resistance to change gear, the more so the more the car has been used, ie its fine when started up in the mornings and driven for a few miles. Now something has gone very wrong and I can only get first and second gear. The gear stick will go in to position in the none working gears but I get no drive at all. Have had the occasional squeak from something when changing gear when I have been accelerating to get on motorway etc for months.
I can't see anything obvious, cables are connected. Fluid ok. Original clutch at 75k, but drives fine in 1st and 2nd, no juddering going up the ramps etc.

What's it likely to be, any ideas please?

Could be a rusty cable, also check the lever on the gearbox end where the cables connect.
