Problem with EOLYS tank

Featured Replies

Hi all, My Focus 1.6 TDCI 56 plate 94000 miles has been giving me warnings about EOLYS and showing the amber engine light. However I decided to take it to my local garage. Today they contacted me to say they are getting nowhere fast and that they cannot cancel the EOLYS refill light. They suggest replacing the EOLYS tank at a cost of £400 plus £150 fitting needless to say I am not impressed, would a syringe suffice? The car drives well and does everything I need it for but I really don't relish that sort of expenditure and if there is a work round I would really appreciate some guidance.

so what cant they do, fill the tank? or cancel the light? ford diagnostics required to reset the counter for additive after refilling.

Cancel the light, which surprises me because they are supposed to know about these things

You can cancel the light with a modified ELM (£15) and FORScan for free...

But I'm sure there is also a manual procedure for doing it, something about switching the ignition on and off and opening/closing the filler flap, you'll find it online with a quick search anyway.

Is there someone in Worcestershire or nearby with the equipment to cancel the error code P2585 for the additive tank reset?

P2585 "Fuel Additive Control Module Warning Lamp Request"

This is probably not the primary error code, it is a request from the FACM (additive control module) to light the warning lamp. A generic scanner will not read FACM codes, so will not reveal the real cause of the error. Either Ford IDS (at a garage) or Forscan (as Tom suggested, above), will read the FACM codes and help to identify the problem.

Haynes gives the Filler cap & ignition key reset sequence, but warns that it may not work if the warning lamp is already on.

If the problem was just low fluid, then either Ford IDS or Forscan will be able to reset the FACM system.

For more on Forscan (it is a very good system, and quite easy to use once you get used to its foibles), see:
