Mould around the petrol cap

Featured Replies

We have a 2003 Fiesta whereby the petrol flap is opened with the key. This is becoming increasingly difficulty and feels like the key will snap in the lock. Once open, the actual filler cap is the same and it all seems to be covered in grease and white mould. Is this common and what's the best stuff to use to clean it up?

Have you tried WD 40?

:O I had the same issue. mine broke in the end. I just couldn't lock the cap anymore.

Lucky it broke when open lol...

The real fix is to remove the lock barrel, disassemble it, clean it and refit with a bit of graphite for lubrication.

WD40 might work as a quick fix but not for long.

you could also try forcing some copper grease into the lock (after the wd40). you also need to lubricate the locking tabs or whatever the actual locking mechanism is like.
