Slow Throttle Response

Featured Replies

Hey!

I have a Ford Fiesta 2010 Zetec 1.4 Diesel, I feel like most the time the throttle response is poor. It  might take one or two seconds to fully put the power on, I'm no car specialist in-fact far from it. So i was wondering if this can be fixed or is it just because i have an older Diesel car?

EDIT: I have been looking into reasons, i have a few idea's to go off now, Fuel Filter maybe clogged & dirty (Clean or replace Fuel Filter), If not that then maybe the fuel pump is playing up(It's a tricky job so take to mechanic), I am not going to lie i do have a heavy foot when it comes to accelerating from a stopped position (At lights or other), my resource says this could be a cause because of the cars electronic throttle control system, now i don't know if my car even has this system in place and could this be the problem for me? It says sometimes the system dampens responses to save save diesel.

Any Advice would be highly appreciated,

Thank
Jordan

Read up on some information, Still need some advice on common faults or what it is more likely to be

Have you cleaned the injectors out using diesel purge? When was the air filter last changed? Also check the MAF is working correctly.

Also, diesels don't have throttle plates.

I don't claim to be an expert.

I think that car does have an electronic throttle pedal (throttle pedal has electrical wires to and not a sliding cable). should be easy to see if you look up at top of pedal. so the ECU can dampen response if it wants to (I don't know if it is programmed to).   It's not like the old days where a sliding cable goes from pedal to something under the bonnet where the movement at both ends of the cable is instant.

I think of the fuel filter was blocking it would cause the engine light to come on and record an error code for low fuel pressure (my fiesta 1.6tdci did that)

I am wondering if it is something to do with the turbo (any air leaks in turbo piping?)

Never cleaned the injectors and i have no idea, Mass Air Flow? i shall check it over weekend, would this not give me a warning light?

Thank you.

yes they do have turbo (all modern diesel cars do as they are hopeless without them) the turbo is roughly in middle of the pic. it's the silver bit that has a metal pipe bolted to top of it with a large allen key bolt. the metal pipe is the high pressure oil pipe to the turbo bearings. air goes from airfilter to the turbo, then comes out of the turbo to the inlet manifold to go into the engine cylinders .  the turbo boosts the pressure of the air to force more into the engine. so the piping/ trunking whatever it is called between the turbo and where the air goes into the cylinders holds pressurised air and therefore important there is no leaks.
