Mk1 Focus Alloys on Mk7 Fiesta?

Featured Replies

Recently took my 03-plate Focus 1.8 TDCi Zetec off the road and got a 63-plate Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost 125 Titanium to replace it. I still have a set of alloys from the Focus, the kind pictured here, with winter tyres on them. Just wondering if I'll be able to use these as winter wheels for the Fiesta? The wheels currently on the Fiesta are like this. I believe they're both 4x108 PCD? The Focus wheels and tyres are 195/60/15, and the wheels on my Fiesta are 195/50/16. According to willtheyfit.com, the speedo error on that is only -2.21%, so at 70mph my speedo will say 68.5mph. Seems ok. Apart from probably looking a bit rubbish, are there any other problems with doing this? Specifically I'm wondering about width and offset, because they confuse me and I'm not 100% certain I know the width and offset of either wheel! I think it might be 6J ET52.5(?) for my Focus wheels and 6.5J ET52 for my Fiesta wheels, but really not sure - different websites seem to throw different numbers around.

Also, if I were to do this, what tyre pressure should I put into the Focus wheels when they're on the Fiesta? They're supposed to be 32psi front and back when on the Focus, but not sure how that changes when they're on the Fiesta because A) I imagine it's significantly lighter than the Focus and B) my Fiesta's tyres are supposed to be different pressures front and back, 30 and 28 I think, so not sure if I should be doing something like that.

Cheers!

no idea about pressures.

The diameter will be slightly bigger (as you know from speedo error amount). It may be that the tyres rub somewhere particularly on full lock. Also bear in mind it might rub somewhere when the suspension is in different positions (braking hard for example) so a very careful check would be needed with the wheels on the car. It might be difficult to be sure without having the car on a lifting table and the front wheels on turning plates and someone putting weight on front of car.  I am sure the wheels will go on the car (ie. the holes are all correct)  I am put fiesta wheels on a mk1 focus

Thanks for the advice. I'll need to check with insurance beforehand, no point using winter wheels if they make you uninsured(!), but I might give this a try and just test it slowly. Drive around slowly, try full lock, try braking while steering, slowly increase speed..

I think I've found the answer to the tyre pressure question. This gives the pressures for 195/60/15 (my Focus sizes) on a 2008-onwards Fiesta. 31 psi front and back. :thumbup1:

because a lot of people at insurance companies are stupid and won't know what you are talking about &/or are 'computer says no' mentality I bet 99% certain they will say no they will not allow it.

PS, I have worked for many insurance companies myself and that is how i know this.

Some forum members might say just do it and not tell the insurance company. Some might say that surely using winter tyres in winter makes it safer and you are therefore a better risk than people without winter tyres (ignoring the possible complication with larger tyres that may or may not run)

I think testing if they rub by driving it is not wise. I  think it needs to be more visual

Yeah, a little bit worried about both those points. Thanks for the advice!
