From a wiring diagram, the two unusual actuators are the variable intake solenoid, and the swirl control valve.

I think the swirl valves are small, moveable vanes near each fuel injector in the inlet manifold.

Googling Ford swirl control valves gave some info, including potential failures on early engines, like 2002.

thanks for the info i found out that one dose the swirl flaps know as the IMRC the over one in my case isnt working witch is for the imtv system i only found this out from the American focus forum  . this system make the air take a shorter or longer path some say or wider or thinner path that intake airflow speed.

so why was i looking at this well the car was sluggish on pull away  also as rev hang around 2000 revs plus just didn't fill right a specially at low rev and cold but was ok when hot and at higher revs so until the new solenoids come i have tested it buy connecting the vacuum pipe to the inlet pipe  with a connector bypassing the solenoid and the improvements is like its a new car

if any one as these symptoms you take a look at the solenoid the second one two the front of the car the first one will give a error code P2008 the second one gives no error code

if anyone needs to test this then i can tell you how
