Weekend Toy? - Fiesta ST MK6?

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Been a while since I posted on here!!

I was thinking recently of purchasing a weekend toy (Fiesta MK6 ST). I was looking to spend only £2.5/£3k on one with -70k miles etc. This is going to be a car to drive at the weekends and some week days. I found a couple of ST's near me, some which are Cat C, is this worth doing? Or should I just wait for one which isn't a category car?

I am mainly looking to ensure the car has been regularly serviced.

What sort of things should I look out for that should have been replaced at 70k?

Anything big I would need to be paying out for?

Many Thanks for all advise given.

I take it you drive a mk7 st-2?? If so I wouldn't get a mk6 ST. If I was going to get a weekend car then it would have to be something a bit more special, like a roadster meant for throwing into corners and cruising through country lanes.

Can't go wrong with an MX5 or Toyota MR2. If not a roadster then perhaps a 328i? If you wanted to stay Ford then you could get a escort, old mondeo, or sierra cosworth. Although that might be pushing the budget a fair bit haha.

At 70k miles I'd be making sure cambelt and water pump have been done.

Thanks for the response Luke!

I used to own the ST-2, I now drive a BMW for work etc. I wanted just a little project/weekend car, I've always liked the MK6 ST's and ideally don't want to spend anymore than £3k!

Out of interest... what's the cost of the cambelt and water pump to be replaced?

Cheers!

All deoends where you go. The parts cost not far off £120 including new oil and filter. Go to Ford and expect to pay upwards of £400 would be my guess. A normal garage I'd say just under 300? Not quite sure on that one, I like to do the work myself, I've saved hundreds far. Helps pay for more tools hehe.

Yeah I can imagine doing it yourself you save a sh** ton of money. Doubt it would take it to Fords as they old do half a job. But I have a very good independent garage around the corner from me.

Just wondering if anyone knows a good map to get as well for the ST MK6. I'm based in Essex so anywhere local would be best and a rough cost and BHP improvement.

Make sure the previous owner has receipts for any work he's done on the car. When I bought my zetec s the owner said he's going to send receipts for the work he's done. It's been 2 months now and got nothing. If the seller says anything like this to you best just to walk away or put a deposit in and collect it when the seller has everything. The last owner said he changed the clutch, water pump, injector seals, timing belt and said has been remapped. I have no paperwork to prove this so I don't know if it was all rubbish. Trying to find out now it has been remapped, will really break my heart if it hasn't
