2004 Ka SportSE (Alarm(Lack Of))

Featured Replies

Hello all. Hope this is the correct section for the 1.6L 2004 SportSE?

I got myself a 56k one last week. Seems to have a few things.

First question I have for your expertise is do I have an alarm?

I've been thrown to thinking it should have one as standard, mainly because one of the two keys I got with it has this remote:

The buttons on this do nothing at all, batteries (x3) tried in both positions ( - / + ), no lights, no central lock activation. It DOES unlock/lock the car manually both doors, boot, and fuel cap. Only activates the LED in the clock for 5 seconds when I move to ignition position 1.

The second key is just one of these with the red transponder chip in:

I've yesterday gone to visit my local Ford dealership, and pestered them about it. They don't think the car has it fitted?

I got a print out of the options on the car, as per attached. Does that translate to those that know the wordings, that I do indeed NOT have a remote alarm?

I'll add the other oddity to another thread, but that relates to intermittent Cyl.2 misfire, and also intermittent ABS light.

Thanks in advance.

The print out states 'with perimeter anti theft' so yes you have an alarm.
Best way to test is to unlock the car with the key blade then open a door and wait.
After 10 seconds the alarm should sound intil you put the key in the ignition and turn it to position 'I'.
Have you had the fob key tested to make sure it produces a signal on button presses?
Any key cutting shop should be able to test this, hand held testers are dirt cheap anyway (I have one myself).
If the fob is working then it just needs pairing to the car.

Put key in ignition and turn to 'II' without starting car.

Turn from II to 0 four times in 6 seconds and finish at I

You usually (but not always) hear a tone.

If you have an immobiliser light it should show a steady light.

Press the lock or unlock button and should hear another tone.

Leave key in ignition until the immobiliser light (if present) starts flashing again or for approximately 20 seconds for programming mode to end.

Open and close drivers door.

Test key locks/unlocks on button presses.

OK thanks @Stoney871 - was very confused by all those LESS options there, like Security Lock and Convenience.

Not been able to hear anything from the alarm yet with this method. Nor by locking, with window down, and opening from the inside. But I will give that specific method a go.

Not yet, will enquire with local key cutting place, see if they're able to do it. Got a Timpsons fairly nearby as well.

Have tried a few different methods, and only ever see red LED for 5 seconds when initially turning key the first time to position...one or two...can't recall, will update when I am with the car next. But I tried a slightly different method to the below, so will give it another go later on, step by step.
