I think basting along the empty dual carraigeway at 'some'mph beforehand might have helped.  But I was still surprised as it was a freezing cold January day!

Once you've ground back the welds and buffed it clean, why not go the whole way and have it chromed as well?

Italian tune, yeah its the only way to be sure, I load her up with additives, then go for a "spirited" drive, hammer the brakes and clear her throat, using lots of  over boost or whatever its called which pressurise the intake manifold to  more that 2 bar (about .5-.1 bar more boost) never failed me yet!

curiously I didn't get a smoke value sheet this last time (done last week) he said there wasn't one, is that normal?

As far as I understand, they don't need to give you a smoke test sheet if it goes through the fast pass check straight away but I do usually get one.

Same thing with brake roller test sheet, I've rarely had those at all.

yoy should get an emmisions sheet unless the emmisions tester doesnt detect any smoke. in that case the emmisions tester sometimes wont go any further as it thinks you havent pressed throttle.

in those cases the fact there is no readable smoke is recorded on the testers check sheet.

brake roller test results are not required to be printed out for the owner of the car. alot of brake rollers dont have the abillity to print out results

How old was the car at the time?

This was last July so 10 and a half years old then. Might need to change the battery as it looks like it has the original battery. Got a bosch one so will see when to fit it plus I found my radio code. When I was starting the car after removing the injectors, getting them reconditioned and putting them back in it would crank slow and this was after charging the battery so this shows its not as good now.

The MK6 brake hoses seem to be prone to rust and early failure.  On the ST150 I had the brake hoses were in a shocking state (and did fail the MOT after 2 years of advisories) at just 8 years old...my Focus was a bit older but the pipes still look perfect.  Looking at the Fiesta facebook groups showed it was quite common.  Fortunately I had some copper pipe left over from doing a mates brake lines (but his car was twice as old lol!) so it didn't cost me anything.

they certainly are made of crap! I've got 2 fiesta's to do this summer for 'friends' no doubt. Both need all the pipes doing ideally.
The father in laws car i keep on the road for him has all original pipes on it, not bad for a 52 plate polo lol.

German engineering on the Polo! :wink:Though saying that I think the mk6 fiestas were built in Germany lol.

There aren't many jobs I'll turn down but brake pipes are often one of them, don't envy you doing 2 cars worth together lol!

The must have german engineered the brake pipes and forgot about the rest then!

You can't beat lying flat on your back under a car feeding brake pipe in lol. Luckily the fiesta lines aren't too bad access/route.

And for the record,  brake lines are still up there in my top 5 most hated jobs

I bet a steering rack is also up there 🤔, maybe even a heater matrix too.

Just going back to not being able to drive away if it's "dangerous". Isn't it the case now if you fail the MOT you can't drive it away as it voids any of the time you had left after the previous one?

As someone who can do most MOT type jobs on my car (e.g. suspension bits and brakes, just not tyres or jobs that require the car to be left in bits overnight) I'd hate to have to pay over £200 for new disks and pads when I can do it myself for half the price.

Don't get me started on swapping out a heater matrix, I did mine myself a few months ago!  (Bye bye entire weekend)

that was my reading on the new situation but Stefan believe its not really any different, they cant hold the car to ransom, but you would be breaking the law driving it away, personally id be getting any driver that did so to sign something to say they know they are breaking the law but that's just me.

I'm sure clutch changing would be another thing but it's definitely worth it. Changed it on my previous car. Was only £40 but was for a small 1 litre. Only did around 800 miles before selling it to a guy who bought it to replace his daughters car which she wrote off after 3 months of driving.
