Ford Focus aux lead

Featured Replies

Hi I have a 2005 Focus zetec comes with the aux button on the display but no hole, do I need to take the glove box out and take radio out and all that to connect my own cable ?

You don't need to take the glovebox out. The simplest method I've found is to buy an Aux cable thing such as

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Adapter-MP3-Player-6000-CD-Gold-Plated-Auxiliary/dp/B00I9BBU0Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1517693168&sr=8-1&keywords=ford+focus+aux

and then an aux 'plate' where the windscreen/seat heating controls would go (either silver or black, to match your car)

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Car-Accessories-Aux-Usb-Interfaces-Button-With-Mini-USB-Cable-For-Ford-Focus-Cd-Dvd-Players/32721628545.html

You would have to remove one of the blanking plates (can be done from the front - although may be a bit difficult). Then you'd pull the radio out from where it sits. In the Quadlock connector there will be an opening where you can fit the block end of the cable into, without detaching the quadlock. Then, before putting the radio back, pass the cable through the hole where the blanking plate was, and test to see if it works. Then, attach the 3.5mm cable from the radio into the back of the AUX plate (it has a USB cable, but for radios without USB it's useless anyway), and then test that AUX port to make sure it still works. If it does work, slot the AUX plate fully into where the blanking plate was, and now you have a neat and tidy AUX port that's much more accessible than the Glovebox method (although a little pricier).

Thanks a lot for the idea sounds a lot more practical.

need to see if I’m up to the task lol.

It was the first 'mod' I ever did to any car, so I wouldn't worry about it. If you're a bit stuck or confused just take your time, you really don't want to break any of those cables. Apart from that it's probably a 1-2 difficulty out of 5. The most annoying part is finding the 3.5mm cable in order to poke it through the hole where the blanking plate used to be.

Also be careful with the knife-type removal tools. The ones they provide aren't very strong, and will bend easily if you push and pull them in the wrong way. They're easily adequate if used in the intended way though.

thanks very much the way you have recommended makes a lot more sense than through the glove box and I really apreciate you dropping the links so I don’t order the wrong bits I will take a pic or update you when I’ve done this I might have a look if they have them bits in Halfords today I don’t have to wait.

You could order the aux cable from the Amazon link I sent you, and until the AUX plate arrives, just poke the cable through the hole where the blanking plate was. It doesn't look very elegant, but it functions in the same way.

You DON'T need the AUX plate, I just got it because it makes things look a lot neater. If you're not concerned then just remove one of the blanking plates and have the cable going through the hole - either way it works the same.
