1.6 Diesel Focus mk3 loosing coolant?

Featured Replies

I recently bought a 2011 Ford Focus Zetec model. Car was grand for first few months until an injector went, it seems to be problem after problem after this getting very low mpg towards standard, radio system not working constantly cutting in and out bluetooth not working. Latest problem with the car is, it is loosing coolant no signs of patches on the ground or anything like that. We brought the car back to the dealership we bought from and pur response was "you are lying". You can visibly see how much coolant was lost after a drive. I'm just enquiring is this a common fault for a focus to loose this much coolant?

Although the 1.6 TDCi does have a number of issues, internal fluid loss was never one of them, you've also got the revised engine (MK3 Focus) which it seems has had the more serious issues ironed out.

How does it run at low revs, what colour are the exhaust gases (white CAN be bad as it means there's moisture in the exhaust gases but this can be normal when an engine is warming up from cold....if it's white once up to temp I'd be rather more worried).

Oh and as daft as it may sound, do the exhaust gases smell "sweet" i.e. like antifreeze?

i had a 1.6tdci engine in my previous fiesta. It leaked coolant from the plastic thermostat cover. hard to find where it was coming from until i added some radweld. it then leaked again quite soon but at least the radweld being red meant the coolant leaking left a tell tale red stain line on the engine so i could see where it leaked from.
