Wobble/vibration through car at idle.

Featured Replies

Had my 64 plate titanium now for a couple of weeks and I've noticed something that seems unusual. When at idle, sometimes the car almost feels like it is running to low on revs, sat in it you can feel the car wobbling through the seats and 3 people have mentioned this. I have asked my local garage and they have said it is possible that the Dual Mass is begginning to fail. Just wondering if anyone has had a Dual Mass go and do the symptoms seem similar?

Car only has 25000 on it but it was a mobility vehicle that appears to have been London based so could off been used a lot in heavy slow moving traffic.

I've also had the car read before having it remapped and it showed 3 faults. P229100 fuel pressure regulation. P02D100 injector cylinder 3.             P086B00 neutral position sensor. These were cleared and did not return after taking the car on a 8 mile run. I will be having it read in 2 weeks time to see if they have returned. Any advice would be gratefully received.

It's possible a DMF could fail in that mileage if being driven in London a lot but I'd still be very surprised if that was the case.  It also doesn't explain the other error codes, usually if a DMF is starting to go you will hear a change in engine tone between being in neutral with the clutch pedal down and being in neutral with the pedal up.

Does the sound of the engine idling change when you engage the clutch pedal (technically it's not the engine noise but the DMF vibrating but you#ll know what I mean if your car is making this type of sound).

I don't hear anything different with the clutch up or down at idle to be honest.

I have been told the error codes could be old codes from something as simple as trouble starting after a filter change.

Having had the car remapped the revs have risen slightly and the car does feel a little better. I will however be taking the car for a couple of big runs to get it fully up to temp and see how it reacts at idle throughout.

That's good then, although it's not the only sign of pending DMF failure it does seem to be the most common, you can often feel a tapping through the pedal when you press it down (as the parts are spinning).  It also might be wise to clean the MAF/MAP sensor and the airflow sensor (assuming your engine has them) with either electrical cleaner or proper MAF cleaner because things like the engine not being able to correctly judge the inbound airflow can also cause running issues.
