Start up issues Ford Focus 2.0 TDCI 58 plate

Hi All,

This is my first post on this site so if i make any mistakes please let me know and i wont make them in future!.

I have just bought my 3rd ford focus (used) and have had a worrying issue. A few days ago on the motorway the car seemed to go into limp home mode while doing 70mph..... we pulled over onto the hard shoulder switched the engine off, left it for a few mins and restarted with no issue. I checked the DTC codes on arrival and there were none showing (through dash test facility DTC showing as NONE)/. This may have absolutely nothing to do with my current issue but thought id include it for completeness

Today after arriving home from work and turning off the engine i tried to restart, the engine started but ran around 500rpm with no response from the throttle and the engine sounded particularly rough  with knocking noises (up until this point it purred, as far as a diesel can) i tried 4 or 5 times to get the car to start  to no avail.

I am currently leaving it to cool and am going to try and start it in the morning.

I have 2 obvious concerns

     1) the car wont start!

     2) if i manage to start the car in the morning and everything is fine, is this going to happen again and should i see the 2nd hand dealer i bought it off now?

I have done SOME research and cant seem to find an exact match although the warm start issue seems to be similar. I am warey of leaving the engine running, sounding so rough, to see if if picks up after some time just in case i am causing further damage.

I have rechecked the DTC codes using the TEST facility however none are showing.

Up until today, and the limp home mode issue i experienced above, the car has run like an absolute dream!

Any help/advice would be much appreciated as i really love this car (the torque is phenomenal compared  to my previous mk1 1.8 tdci).

I am more than willing to upload Vid/pics to youtube etc if that helps anyone?

Fingers crossed ive not bought a dud.

Craig

throttle body butterflies sticking had this on my 2.0 tdci and filed them down slightly and worked a treat.

Thanks Shamus,

Will have a look at that and let you know if it fixes the problem.

I obviously have a problem but for now it has gone away. Really hard to determine the cause and absolutely no point taking it to a garage as its currently running like a dream....

ARRRGGHH!

If it not the above from Shamus then if i do find the cause i'll let you know/

Craig
