Hi,

Just checked my oil and noticed the brake fluid container hidden at the back under the windscreen was low.

It's very close, if not on the Min line. Brakes, clutch etc still running/feeling fine and no lights!

I've downloaded a Focus manual but not 100% its correct for the UK spec as it has a lot of US references.

Does anyone know what type/level/grade of brake fluid I'll need for a 06 plate MK2 1.6 petrol Focus LX.

dot 4 for your brake fluid , not to expensive to buy. 

how are the brakes looking for wear? worn pads and discs will mean the pistons are pushed out, which will drop the fluid level.

Haven't had a look, I'll check tomorrow but due for an MOT in about a month so will get a once over then anyway.

Off topic question:

Should you take the cap off the reservoir when changing discs and pads?

Last (and only) set I did was about 10 years ago on my first car - J reg rover 414 lol! Just couldn't remember about the cap to release the air pressure when you push the piston back. Thought you always did but remember someone saying not to...

I would say that your brake pads are worn and possibly your discs.  The brake fluid will drop as the friction material wears down.  If these check out I would check for leaks.
