Ford Focus mk2 1.6 TDCI Engine won't crank

Featured Replies

Hi there, I have a 2004 focus 1.6 tdci and the car won't crank and start. The immobiliser flash stay on, says engine malfunction. The battery lamp and the oil lamp won't flash. I replaced the instrument cluster 3 times and reperad it. sometimes when I turn the key on and off several times it's starts and runns fine. Fault codes: U2510-20, U1900-20, P138B-62, P1412-E8
Many thanks
Lori

Glow Plugs and EGR valve, the U codes point to coms issues, in this case a general CANBUS issue and security issues related to communication between the PCM and the IC

when you say you "replaced" the IC 3 times did you have it programmed in? the IC, ECU and ignition barrel are all tied in to one another. assuming it was reprogrammed correctly then my next thought would be what do the EGR, glow plugs and security all have in common and that would be the ECU, make sure all the plugs are well seated.

Yeah I programmed the IC correctly, and changed the glow plug relay but no luck. I will check the plugs one more time. Thanks for the reply

Maybe get some contact cleaner In the ECU plug, , also, whip the battery out for half an hour as well (remember the radio codes!)

With nackard Glow plugs it should still work so the fact its not even turning over suggests its more to do with the security side of things / ECU connector.

What did you program the IC with?

I programmed it with Forscan.

can forscan do it? I know they were adding PATs programming but I didn't realise they had gone and done more then key programming. I thought we needed IDS to do it but I could be wrong.

Yes it can.
