this is a known problem Apparently Ford have issued a Technical Bulletin about it...the hatch hinges need sealing with some special sealer.

A few more seem to be getting the same issue with the tailgate leak. Ford say the warranty is only for one year, as this is classed as trim. Disgusting if you ask me. how could Ford say this on a recent model and how could an owner be responsible to pay for a flaw in their prodution process.

Has anyone else had this issue? Maybe this would need a few owners to come out and scream for them to listen. Its obvious that Ford has to stand the cost.

the new ford kas are suffering from the same issue whyu is it that ford have just lost the ball on quality my mk1 to me from what im reading seems better built than the newer more expensive fords not sure why but the newer focus suffers from issues the older mk1 just didnt have sorry to heear you didnt get anywhere wiyth them perhaps kicking a fuss up in the showroom might change there mind

Hello, By all accounts leaks into the boot area are not uncommon on the Focus. I have a 2006 Ghia 2.0 and whilst the boot remains dry when it is closed, I get a "downpour" of water from the right side of the hatch itself when it is raised after a period of rain or damp weather. If I'm very careful and remember to open the hatch just about 6 inches or so, the water will discharge to the outside of the rubber seal and so to the ground, but raise the hatch any higher and you get a deluge inside the boot and a wet carpet etc...!!

I can only guess that during a rainy period, water somehow builds up inside the hatch frame due to a leaky seal somewhere. Either that, or there is possibly a blocked drain hole?? Does anyone have a similar problem? Any help appreciated...

I had water coming in my boot from the rear spoiler on my 2005 focus titanium.

When I removed it to check it was the rubber fitting the comes from the centre brake light had come loose I pushed in back into place in the boot frame and no more wet boot

There is a kit from Ford which comprises of a pair of trims which clip onto the edges of the glass and adds a rain channel.

I'll try to dig the codes for them later tonight.

Funny enough, I came across water in the right corner of my boot yesterday! :(

I have a foot pump, bulb kit and long wrench in the elasticated strap on right side,

all these bits had fallen out and when putting them back I noticed the strap was wet, but the carpet and side wall weren't

I pulled out the carpet side wall and there was a streak of water down the body, and a small pool of water in a rubber plug on the floor.

I assumed it was coming from the lights, so took it off, it was filthy underneath and wet on the bottom part.

Gonna clean both up later and put some silicone sealant around the holes.

Hopefully it was a one off due to the strong wind and rain the other night, it actually set my alarm off.

My old Escort had a leaky boot, and it drove me crazy because I never figured out where it was coming in.

RAIDER i would not recommend silicone around the clips. silicone will only cure for a short period of time. it lifts as it don't stick to metal.

This is the first part to replace as these are common area where they leak. The Finis code is on the bag.

once you have replaced these, if you still have a leak the hinge area is where it can leak.

let me know how it goes and i will add up another picture of the next area to repair if needed.

Replacing those wont cure the leak the foam gets saturated and leaks I put marine sealant around the foam and left them to dry you end up with a rubber washer forming round the foam then I put them in never leaked yet 3 yrs on.ford mechanic admitted even on new clips they seal them

remove your light. then put the screw back in the clip, then pull out the clip with some pliers around the head of the screw. you might have to turn it slightly to pull out through the hole in the body

I stripped mine out completely and pushed out from underneath as i did not want to mark the paint.

If your careful you still should be able to do it. I went the long way around. LOL
