1.8 D Belt Guide

Featured Replies

I have a Fiesta 1.8 D on a 51 plate , with what I thought was a simple to fix problem , but after having a phone call from a local garage and the price they have quoted me I think I maybe in trouble.

So I'm hoping someone here has had this happen and can help me.

The main belt that goes round the crank, alternator, power steering, water pump, tensioner and guide came off the other day, so I had to get the AA to get me home. When the AA had a look at it the Guide ( which is about 3 inches wide ) and attaches to the head had come off, what he said is that the bolt that goes through the guide had stripped the thread out of the fin which it connects too on the head. The garage has said that the engine will need to be removed to be able to re-tap the hole and put the bolt back, if this is the case it's a very big design floor.I have also rung Ford technical dept and they said they couldn't help me, which I was VERY annoyed at, as they are the ones that designed and built the car !!!

Sorry I haven't got any pictures to show as I don't have the van , as it's still in the garage and I can't seem to find an image on the web to show what I mean.My model doesn't have AC, so I'm not sure how the routing goes.

I did some Googling and this was the best I could find. Should be correct for your Engine.

If its thrown the cam belt off its probably bent the valves in the head.

I would get the garage to check this first as a repair could be uneconomical if its bent valves

Yeah to be honest u would have to re tap the hole wat happen did u not change belt at recommended interval

It's certainly not the timing belt, I think it's what's called a serpentine belt.

The belt gets turned by the crank and in turn that powers the water pump , alternator and the power steering , but I still can't seem to find a proper picture for it anywhere , I did see it on the AA mans laptop, but I can't find it online.
