Escort LX 1.6 Torque Steering

Featured Replies

Hi, just wondering if anybody has had the same problem or could give advice...

I just bought a 97 1.6 LX Escort and it was fine for a couple of weeks....

Then I realized the steering wheel was off centre and that accelerating sends the car drifting left and taking my foot off the accelerator makes it turn right slightly making the car feel like you are controlling a boat!

It seems to be worst in 3rd gear and as far as I know it's called torque steering...

I took it into a garage today because I realized one of the front springs had gone so I got that fixed for £200!

Then once that had been done the car still has the same problem.

I don't have any idea what it could be... the car has recently had an MOT with new wishbones fitted.

Any help would be great..

Thanks

Hi,

Have you have the car tracked I wouldnt imagine that you would have talk steer in a 1.6 Escort not to the point that it would be that noticeable.
