Thermostat - Need to change entire housing? 1.6 TDCi

Featured Replies

I suspect the thermostat is faulty on my 1.6TDCi, temp never gets up to 90, think max its goes is 75, then drops back down to 60 again.

To change the thermostat I notice only complete housing assembly's are listed on motor parts websites, I appreciate the housing can apparently be a weak point on these and if keeping a car long term would be wise to replace the whole unit, but it's expensive enough. If I can get the stat on its own I would like to just change it, is that possible or is the housing a sealed unit with the stat inside?

Also, general question about the search feature on this forum, is it possible to search just the "Focus" forum or just the "Mondeo" forum for example, I can't see how to do that and its a pain looking through a million unrelated results about other cars.

Cheers.

I bought a thermostat housing online for 9 quid and a mechanic mate of mine fitted it for 15 quid, so not expensive at all. The housing and thermostat are completely separate parts, if you are changing the thermostat it might be wise to change the housing as well. Mine developed a crack and was losing coolant. And yes, there are different forums for different models, just select the model.

9 quid is good for the hosing, I assume that came with the thermostat within? That was for a 1.6 petrol though yeah, mines a diesel and the thermostat housing complete assembly is priced from €50 to €70 which is expensive if I only need the thermostat as my housing isn't leaking. if the 9 quid was for a 1.6 TDCi please shate the link to the £9 one.

I know there are different mini forums for the ford models, what I was asking though is within the search feature itself, you don't seem to be able to select which mini forums you can search, so only search the focus forum and only return results from with the focus forum for example. The search feature seems to only allow searching the entire forums as a whole.

The search on here is pretty poor, you're not the first to have noticed lol.

The thermostat on the 1.6 TDCi is integrated into the housing and not available serparately.

Thanks for clearing that up Tom, I wasn't aware of that.
