Focus MK2 Not Starting - Timing

Featured Replies

Hi There,

My 2009 Facelift Focus needed its water pump replaced, to which I managed to get sorted yesterday. But upon starting the car, something isnt right, ie suspected timing has changed. This could possibly of been done when I had to remove timing belt against the tensioner and then refitting it etc.

Not too happy this has happened:(

So my question is how easy a job is it to reset the timing on my Focus?

I know I would require a timing/camshaft kit, but is the actual job of resetting it easy enough?. Has anyone done this before or have a step by step guide to follow?

Did you use the proper timing tools?

what engine? if it's 1.6tdci it is relatively easy.  Not sure about other engines

Hope you have not already bent a valve from the timing being out.

to do the water pump do you not have to remove the cam belt?

if so, its set up (position / timing) is CRITICAL, you can't guess or hope or worse still not know its position... you may have destroyed the engine....

cars have two timing settings

the position of the valves in relation to the pistons (valve timing)

relationship of the piston and the spark or the piston and the injector opening on a diesel (ignition timing)
