Rocker Cover Gasket Help

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Noticed some oil in the spark plug well when I was changing the spark plugs so I want to change the rocker cover gasket as well.

I have some questions about it, any help would be appreciated .

Do I need to rub some oil on the rubber gasket when changing it (like the oil filter)?

Do I need any "sealant" or is the replacement rubber gasket on it's own fine?

How much should I torque the bolts and in what order? I know sometimes you are supposed to do this in a special order to avoid warping.

It's a 2008 mk2.5 1.6 petrol focus.

It anyone has a Haynes manual I wouldn't mind a picture of the relevant pages out the book

There you go. From the Haynes manual for the 1.6 mk2.

If you need any more info from it let me know.

I tend to fit genuine cam cover gaskets, regardless of car brand. In this case I'm sure they are around £45 from the dealer. No need to do anything other than make sure the surface is clean and no carbon deposits or anything stuck to it. I usually spray some brake cleaner onto a rag and give it a wipe. No sealant or anything required, the new gasket will seal correctly if the head is clean and the cam cover is in good shape.

Perfect, thanks Dave.

Noted, thanks stef123. Brake cleaner won't harm the plastic?

It's never been a problem on any car I've ever worked on lol. you are not soaking it or spraying it over a prolonged period, a quick wipe over and it evaporates near enough instantly anyway.
