MK3 wiper not wiping the full distance

Featured Replies

Just noticed this problem a couple of days ago. The driver's side wiper is not wiping to the same point as the passenger side and looking at them both together it seems to be a bit slower too. Where it would normally sweep quite close to the A pillar, as it does on the other side, there's now a good 5 or 6 inch gap between where the wiper stops and the pillar.

Has anyone else had this issue? Will a bit of grease solve it or does it sound like the motor's starting to go?

Thanks

The Focus MK3/MK3.5 has 2 independent direct drive wiper motors. This is a full electronic system without a windscreen wiper mechanism or linkages.

The direct drive windscreen wipers can be recalibrated using a suitible Ford specific diagnostic system. By recalibrating the system the end positions of the wiper arms are basically programmed into the system.

In this case I would start by performing a calibration of the wiper system. If this does not solve the problem the windscreen wiper motor is most likely defective.

Thanks. I was reading on another forum that someone had to reset them after replacing a damper. It had a new spring a couple of weeks ago so I'm assuming it's been done then as it looks like the motor sits above the suspension
