Radio relay draining battery

Featured Replies

Car is a 2009 Fiesta 1.4 Titanium automatic. Problem started with battery going flat in a couple of days. Fitted new battery, car fine for 2 days but then parked for three days and battery flat again. Put on charge for 6 hours, doors opened but car would not start. It was started by mechanic with power boost and taken to local approved Ford garage. Fitted a new alternator as said it was not charging sufficiently under load. However there was a 02a draw on battery which would flatten it again in a few days. Mechanic tracked drain to radio/bluetooth relay. Taking the fuse out reduced the draw to an acceptable 0.06a. Rebooted the bluetooth/radio module which seemed to eliminate the draining problem. But the radio and sound system didn't work and One Hour Mode came up on the display. Mechanic disconnected battery for an hour. After reconnection the radio worked again but the draw on the battery was back up to 0.1a to 0.12a. This is high enough to flatten the battery in a few days. At the moment the fuse has been taken out so I am without radio and hoping that battery won't go flat again. Does anyone have any insight into the problem and what a fix might be?  Car had a new ECU just 2000 miles ago.

The car seemed to run fine without the battery fuse in but its little electronic brain decided that the bonnet is open (it wasn't) and consequently set the alarm off until I disconnected the battery again. I think it is having a nervous breakdown (as am I). It has now been at a Ford Main Dealer for the best part of a week and they say it is the radio/bluetooth module which is draining the battery ( I already told them that) and that they will replace the unit at a cost of £500. They are also of the opinion that the "bonnet open" warning is a side effect - which I very much doubt - as they can't find anything wrong with the latch or the sensor. Hey ho. These things are sent to try us.

£500!!!!  It’s a plug and play unit. Buy one from eBay for £20 - 60 and do it yourself.

Thank you. I wish I knew this on Wedenesday!  I know nothing about cars and have noweher to work on them so I am completely at their mercy. To be fair I was also charged for tracking down the fault which somehow took them three days (even though I had typed it all out for them). I was charged £290 for the unit and the rest was made up of labour, VAT and what have you. Can't help feeling ripped off. Had already paid for a new battery from Halfords and a new alternator at a local garage which I can't help feeling were unnecessary. Last Ford I'll ever buy.

Did you solve this problem in the end as we are experiencing the same thing!

This thread has been dead for over 7 years. Time to start a new one of your own.

I'm not familiar with the Ford Model: smith, please post a photo 😉
