Diesel getting into engine oil

Featured Replies

getting diesel into my engine oil , at quite an alarming rate , car is a 2007 mk4 mondeo tdci , , no obvious warning signs , starts okay with no smoke , can cut out when cold though , changed the fuel pump as I was told it could be this but still no joy , has anyone else ever experienced this?

Ps I’ve had the diagnostics checked and there are no faults coming up , also it’s had a new egr and dpf in the past 10k miles

Failing DPF regens do this, it's not unusual on anything with a DPF.  But worse if the car regularly does short cold trips.

I’ve been told this Tom , thing is most of my miles are done on the motorway, did have a new dpf approximately 8k ago but it wasn’t a genuine ford one , would this make a difference?

It still seems to happen even on high milers as well, just not usually as much.  Non genuine DPFs often aren't as efficient and don't tend to last as long, but shouldn't be a direct cause for failing regens with that sort of driving.  Do you often/ever find the engine fan running on after switching the engine off?

How much is the oil level rising and over how many miles?

Check to see if your Oil Quality Sensor is failing - it’s part of the DPF regeneration process - quite a few topics regarding this on goggle and usually found as an issue on the 2.0 TDCI engines.

The engine oil is rising quite rapidly, I’ve had to change the oil twice in the past 400 miles , last time the guy said the engine had 3 1/2 litres too much in , this was after being driven for approximately 300 miles , can’t say I’ve noticed anything with the fan running though

Thanks Tom I will get that checked out

Oh wow, that amount definitely isn't normal!

Do you notice any running issues at all?  It sounds more like an injector fault than a DPF issue now.  Have you checked it for any fault codes?

Yes it’s been in for fault code testing at 2 different places but neither found any , it starts instantly also , but sometimes can stall as you set off when it’s cold

Hi. Did you ever find the problem? I'm having similar issues..

I'm thinking I am extremely lucky to have the vaporiser plug which cannot cause oil dilution like the post-injection system.
And therefore oil condition sensor (or whatever) is not needed on 2011 2.0 TDCi DW10C engine.
@TBM1 fault codes from Forscan before activating this old thread.?

I can't get access to forscan. No one on the island has got it (I live on a Greek island). I'm not even getting any lights on dash saying anything is wrong, just constant regens and heavy oil dilution. I'm getting the injectors bench tested this week and also the HPFP.

Free download for laptop or phone:
https://forscan.org/home.html
Unsure of the state of phone download availability. and you need an adapter (do you have Amazon on the island?)
Bluetooth one will work on laptop or phone:
This is for Android:

Great, thanks. I've got an old Android phone I can use and I'll order that adapter.

I don't quite understand this as the independent edition worked for me recently.

I thought the Google Play version was the one that was unable to be purchased (why is it still mentioned?)
So that appears to mean there is no possibility of the Android version being available with no idea when it will be coming back?
However, I have the Bluetooth adapter above and it does work on suitable laptop or Android phone (when the app becomes available again)

The Independent addition works fine but if you don't already have it you can't buy it at the moment, also if you change phones you can successfully install it on your new phone, I did it last week. If you click on the link after the red writing it explains it better.

The Google Play edition may come back at some time in the future.

So will the Bluetooth module linked above (which I just purchased) work on a windows computer if I can't now use and Android device?

FORScan now recommend the vLinker FS, not the FD.

I've got that and it works on our vehicle from Android phone and Windoze 11 laptop.

Ok, thanks. I've managed to download forscan lite to my Android phone, so just need to wait on the adapter arriving. Will come back then.

Just an update on this. So, I took my car to a 3rd garage and they found that the original garage that had fitted the dpf had put the dpf temperature sensors in the wrong way. They swapped them, and everything is now working as it should.

Thanks for coming back with that solution.
Presumably that was plugging the sensors into the wrong plugs (that should have been made impossible to do by using different connectors?) rather than the actual sensors (which are likely different enough cable lengths to prevent)?
