oil and coolant

Featured Replies

i find it a bit of a mind field now buying oil or coolant.

i remember just buying castrol gtx or coolant but now its make sure its for your focus make sure its for your vw or audi or what ever car and now pink coolant has to be the right one for your specific car.

is it all necesary or can you just buy 5w30 or what ever grade. it all does my head in

Depends which engine really.  On a non turbo petrol you can probably get away with any 5w30.  On an EcoBoost or a DPF diesel I would be making sure it's to Ford spec though.

Pink coolant should all be mixable, it's just that the genuine stuff is a better quality and designed to last 10 years without freezing or causing corrosion, the aftermarket is more like 5 years.

expect to pay around £18 or less for shell oil for your focus on eurocarparts/carparts4less as for antifreeze pink is what ford use make sure it`s the O.A.T one you get. again can be picked up cheap at eurocarparts compaired to halfords £16 for 2ltrs lol.

It does my head in too.  I bought Halfords Ford spec oil when it was on offer (£15 for 4 litres) for my mk3 with dpf and serviced it with said oil.  Spoke to my mechanic and he advised to only use 'C3' or low saps oil but said i'd be okay for just the one service with the halfords oil i'd used.  Tbh, i'm none the wiser as to which i should use!

halfords 5w30 ford spec oil conforms to fords  WSS-M2C-913-C

ok for your focus.

castrol magnatec 5w30 a5 conforms to ford wss-m2c-913-c and d

thats what i mean does it really matter ? isnt 5w30 oil all the same ? i hate buying oil now even buying coolant isnt pink coolant just the same why do they say make sure its for this car or that car its a joke

yes the grades of oil does matter or they wouldn`t go to the trouble of letting you know what grade of oil your car needs.

grab these from your local eurocarparts £19.55 for the lot 😎
