Been having trouble with my 2014 mk3 1.6 TDCi Estate. It's randomly not starting and messages coming up 'park brake applied' then 'normal mode' all lights and radio work fine during this time just won't start. It's been back and forth to the garage and I've had the alternator replaced TWICE as i was told this is the problem and it wasn't charging the battery properly but clearly doesn't seem to be that. Has anyone else had trouble with this or know what it could be?

have you had the battery replaced ? if not thats the next option. had problems with mine and the car wasn`t even 3yrs old. new battery fitted and 3yrs on starts every time 😀

No Battery hasn't been replaced yet... do you know what the 'normal mode' messages coming up mean?

i used to get allsorts of error messages as the car would do a system check when the batt hadn`t got enough power to start it. think you`ll be ok once batt has been replaced. did you check for loose batt connections on the batt terminals

The garage can easily do a proper load test on the battery to confirm if it's toast.

when you say won't start, do you mean

a) starter motor does nothing

b) starter motor clicks but does not turn engine at all

c) starter motor turns engine but slower then it should be

d) starter motor turns engine at the correct speed but engine does not fire up
