2L diesel engine malfunction sevice now! + loss of power

Featured Replies

Four weeks after buying my 2011 (61 plate) 2 L Titanium diesel whilst accelerating from 65 to 75mph the warning message came up along with a drop in power and the amber I!. After sitting in a layby for ten minutes the engine restarted without warning light and drove perfectly OK. I had a local garage look at it they found nothing. Two weeks later pulling a caravan uphill the same warning and loss of power this has happened again whilst towing and also whilst accelerating at speed. Should I take it to a Ford dealer? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hard to say without some fault codes - have you got a means of reading them?

I had a similar problem with my 1.6 diesel, turned out to be the fuel filter needing replacing.

Other than that, I would check all the vacuum boost hoses for splits - can you hear a loud hissing or whooshing noise when this happens?

I haven't got a code reader can you recommend one?

I was wondering about the fuel filter I have always used supermarket fuel and never had a problem but two days before the trouble started I was caught with low fuel and went in a station on an A road they had diesel at two prices I bought 10 litres of the cheapest I thought as I did it that it might be a mistake.

I highly recommend them, I have several of his devices and am happy with them all, in fact I littearlly just purchased his auto switching device that he has released, be interesting to see how it performs!

That was exactly what happened to me. Ran the tank nearly empty, but I put in shell v-power like always. Still needed a new filter.

Not too expensive and fairly easy to do yourself if you've got the mind to.
