Throttle Actuator Control error codes from Torque.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Wondering if you can help me with an issue on my 2010 1.6L petrol Focus.

Lately i have had a number of issues where the car refuses to start as in dead in the water. its not attempting to turn over and suspect this could be immobiliser or battery related.

The second issue i believe is TPS related which limits the throttle to maybe 2500 rpm at full pedal and is not able to be moved without stalling.

both of these issues are not consistent but happen enough to upset the wife on a daily / weekly basis more than i can 🙂

Torque gives me the following codes and descriptions

P2160 - Powertrain (multiple descriptions)

P2108 - Powertrain (Throttle Actuator Control Module Performance)

P2176 - Powertrain (Throttle Actuator Control System - Idle Position not learned)

None of the descriptions line up against the official list below however....

My research so far tells me that yes this is a common problem on many cars not just fords and its not always the TPS that needs replacing sometimes its the MAP sensor.

Visually everything appears OK, no water in the connectors, no broken harness wiring, harness seals intact.

i have not done any DVM measurements on the sensors however as yet but will do.

regarding replacement parts - the TPS is part of the throttle body on the 1.6L but can be removed so should i be looking to replace the following and will i get away with non genuine parts for a while (car is being part ex)

Complete throttle body - VR256U-9E927-FC  - £420

TPS sensor - VP4F9U-9E928-CA - £68

MAP - 2S6A-9F479-BB - £45

Thanks for any help you can give.

Andy.
