rich57
I have a 2012 Titanium X which has the alloys shown below in the photo. The alloys are in pretty good shape but any slight defects or marks I have touched up with Ford Moondust Silver in the past without a problem. Today I noticed a patch of bubbling paint on the inner barrel of the alloy, I rubbed this down, primed it and painted it with brush thinking that would suffice as it’s not that visible. The problem is it now stands out like a sore thumb because it seems the inner of wheels are a different colour to the outer, can that be? Does anybody know what colour would be a good match to touch this up with? Thanks.
Luke4efc
There will be 5-6 years of brake dust caked on the inside that won't get cleaned off as often as the outside, at least that's my guess.
Stoney871
Give the wheels a good clean with Dragons Breath, that will get all the iron contamination off the rims.Be warned- it stinks to high heaven and follow the instructions exactly.https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F162334745761Sent from my SM-G965F (S9+)
JW1982
Most original Ford wheels are first painted in a non metallic grey paint. Afterwards the front of the wheels are painted metallic silver. In this case it is completely normal that the inside of the wheel has a different color than the front of the wheel.
rich57
Thanks, I was sure I wasn't imagining it, any idea what the grey is?, so I can try to match it?

Dark green stuff you spray on for 5 mins then reacts with iron and turns purple.

rich57
Thanks but the wheels are quite clean already, I am sure JW1982 is right about the inners being a different colour. They seem lighter than the Moondust Silver and not metallic, just need to find out what the colour actually is now 😕
rich57
Thanks for all your help guys – after 5 emails and two telephone calls to Ford I gave up trying to find the colour of the paint. Instead I mixed Hammerite Smooth White and Smooth Black paint and matched the grey as near as I could, masked off a small square and brushed painted it. It’s not perfect but it’s on the inside of the wheel so it’s good to satisfy my ODC tendencies 🙂
