Upgrade PAM Firmware

How easy is it to upgrade the PAM firmware?

My local Ford dealer doesn't seem to have a clue and after upgrading to SYNC3 my Park Assist and side sensors no longer work.  I've been told I just need the Park Assist Module to be firmware upgraded

You need to edit the APIM as built data I think. Have a look at the stickied thread upgrading to sync 2.

In the first post there's a document to download with what all the hex addresses refer to.

You need to use forscan to edit the correct bit (not byte lol) in the APIM as built section.

The Park Assist appears to work but the screen images or Visual Aids are jumbled up.  If I post the As Built data from the MotorService website and the AsBuilt data from the Sync3 on here can anyone help me highlight the hex values to modify?

You'll need the extended licence for forscan too. Register for free on their forum then apply for the licence through forscan, again for free 🙂

OK, so I've got a few DTC errors (See Screenshot1 DTC.png)

Here is the APIM data from the Sync3 unit (Screenshot APIM.png)

Here is the AsBuilt data from motorService (Screenshot ASBuiltData.png)

To my naked eye the values look to be the same for the APIM......

Well if they're the same, that means that the APIM is programmed to the car that your sync 3 came out of and not to the features that you have.

I'll have a look-see and post back. In the meantime, make a backup of your current data so we can undo any changes if required.

So made a bit of progress, I remember a while back that Ford had added the Active Park Assist after they added the VIN onto their database (Demo Car), so I have 12 Parking Sensors which I think makes my Car Perpendicular Park, Parallel Park for Active Parking.

So I read online that for 12 Active Park sensors 7D0--04-02 value should be 0007.

Enable Correct Park Assist Mode On APIM
7D0-04-02 xxxX xx
- Change value to a 7 (w/ All 12 Active Park Assist sensors wired) - Parallel, Perpendicular, Park Out Assist
- Change value to a 8 (w/ 10 (or Less) Active Park Assist sensors wired) - Parallel Only
- Change value to a 9 (w/ 10 Active Park Assist sensors wired) - Parallel and Park Out Assist

Voila Active Park visual screens are now in the correct order, side sensors appear on the FLANK guard, I've not managed to test Active Park properly yet but hope to do so soon.

Ah I meant the AsBuiltData screenshot was using my car's VIN not the Sync 3's original car.  BUT originally my car didn't have Active Park Assist so I think the 0005 for 7D0-04-02 was to activate only the Front and Rear Sensors only.  Ford installed APA lateron to use as a Demo Car but must have not updated the AsBuilt Data from MotorService.  Stupidly I didn't get the AsBuilt data from the Sync 2 before I removed it.

Depends on what they refer to. Have you come from sync 1 or sync 2?

I'm guessing sync 2. The one referring to the gps circuit could be because sync 3 uses a different gps module than sync 2.

Do you have nav and is it working?

Hmm not that then. It could just be a load of codes from the old system being disconnected.

Try clearing them with forscan then seeing if they come back after reading them again.

Good idea, I'll try that tomorrow.

Thanks for the help today, saved me a 3 hour drive to the seller for a fix

On the dtc screen, click the button to read the codes at the bottom, then choose APIM from the drop down menu and then click the reset codes button.

Yeah no worries. If there's any come back, post them and their descriptions here and we'll see what we can do!
