2007 update?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I remember reading somewhere that in 2007, prior to the full facelift, the Mk2 Focus rec iced a slight update. However, I can’t find any information on what actually changed on it. Would somebody be able to tell what they actually changed, if anything?

not an expert...

rectangular radio 2006 and earlier

mid 2007 oval radio and an updated electrical system

2008 indicator repeaters in the door mirrors and ugly bumpers

Yes, the different radio is something I've seen on the 2007 cars. Is that it, seems odd just to change the radio? Any reasons why Ford did this update at all, rather than just wait until the MK2.5?

The lead time for many parts is typically months at a time so to avoid having loads of ugly old "green" head units/switches/dash clusters I suspect they ordered the "Red" parts in well before the MK2.5 was launched and just ran the old stock down.

That way everyone is happy, Ford don't get stuck with old stock they don't need and punters get a mini interior face lift for free.

Fair enough, but I like the green backlighting (but I agree the square radio is a bit hideous)!

57 plate ones got a later GEM and I guess lots of other stuff

I have a 57 focus with the old rectangular radio. The oval radio can't be mounted correctly without permanent modification as it requires two holes for the brackets to go in properly.

I did of course purchase an updated radio and only found this out after purchasing the brackets... turns out if you have the fascia the radio will just sit in the hole nicely anyway.

57 plate was when the new ones (mk2.5) first came out, yours must be old stock.

when did the variable rate AC compressor come in, rather then the massive electro magnetic clunk and sap all the power of old type?

I can definitely feel my 1.8 TDCI (2005 early MK2) get less "perky" when the AC is on, I'm also curious to know when the variable rate AC compressors started being fitted on the MK2/2.5 Focus.

The 1.6 massively slows down when the AC is on, and MPG takes a nose dive as well.

My 2008 facelift 1.6TDCi also lost noticeable power and MPG with the AC on...

Mid '07 some  also got side repeaters in PFL mirrors and a side repeater shaped badge to fill the pfl wing hole lol.  Very odd!

variable rate one is designed to run less at idle, low revs and backs off load on hills and hard acceleration (allegedly)

I have NEVER noticed a change in power output on the 1.6 petrol  focus with variable compressor, nor measured a change in fuel efficiency ( I don't doubt it changes but not by any amount worth noting), and I am continually shocked at how effective the system is.   Note:  my main cars have all been 3 litre or more with at least 900g of gas, not baby systems like this one,

saw one at the weekend....  no brainer to put in the mirror.  would reduce build cost by a measurable amount  (less wires to connect bits to pop in etc.)
