Sync 2 F7 cards on eBay or maybe not

Featured Replies

Starting to see listings appearing on eBay for Ford Sync 2 F7 2018/19 navigation card and being listed as Genuine Ford - however I have my suspicions - part number on these new F7 cards is HM5T-19H449-FB which is the same part number as the F6 card

Surely Ford would issue a new part number and continue with the same sequence as the previous card (eg, F5 is GM5T) so these F7 should be IM5T (or possibly JM5T if Ford want to avoid I and 1 being mis-read)

Thoughts anyone, or has anyone brought one and can see what they actually are?

No, the F6 card is HM5T-19H449-FA

F5 is GM5T-19H449-FA

F4 is FM5T-19H449-FC

F3 is FM5T-19H449-FB

F2 is FM5T-19H449-FA

There doesn't seem to be any logic to the sequence...

sorry typo on my part - I meant to say there are F7 cards ending in FA not FB

so looks like F7 - HM5T-19H449-FA is probably fake (either not F7 or they got the label wrong) where as F7 - HM5T-19H449-FB is more likely to actually be F7

Probably relabelled F5 or F6 cards hence no file update will occur.

If they’re cheap it’s worth a purchase.

Note your version number. Put the card in. If it’s fake go through eBay and get a full refund. Simple.

There is an F7 card out it seems. I saw it online a few weeks back. Over £100 put me off.

Just had a look. Plenty about.

I suspect someone bought a genuine card and replicated it using the android hack.

If they spent £100-200 for the genuine card and sell it 10 times at £40-50 it’s quite an earner for them.

eBay is full of replicas so I suspect this is what’s happened. Many Ford SD cards bought on eBay are fakes that work just as well as the original so people are unaware.

quite a few lists for F7 ones with the FB ending on eBay now - suspect as Pebbleheed said, they are copied. Think the only way one would be able to confirm would be to physically compare one with a genuine card from Ford (suspect they will not be the same make cards) and compare the electronic serial number from the cards. Interesting that none of the eBay listings show the rear of the card where manufacturer / serial number info will be.

Something I found on another forum - apparently there is quite a bit more data on the F7 card compared to the older ones -  they were saying F6 fits on a 32Gb card, but F7 will not.

One of the only genuine looking ones on eBay. So I suspect the other F7 cards will work, even if they’re copies.

If the size is bigger than the F6, that I upgraded to a few weeks back, there must be more than just road updates on there.

I’ll probably buy an F7 card at some point and see what’s different. I like having up to date maps and use my focus satnav a lot.

The F7 files are out there, as I managed to acquire them. I've tried the card out and it seems to work ok. The maps are more up to date, as there are new roads showing that were missing from the F6 card so they are probably F7 cards on eBay, whether they are genuine or not is another question.

They’re undoubtedly going to fakes at those prices and without packaging. They’ll work the same but obviously just be home made.

It’s very easy for people to make them. The files are available for download online. Then people are using the android app to generate the sd card key and printing a label. Unsuspecting customers then buy them on eBay.

Coabdiering the cards are about £14 when not bought in bulk - so will be cheaper still in bulk - those people selling them at £50 are making a lot of money in their spare time for literally 2 minutes work.

It’s obviously a copyright issue but it seems a lot of people are doing it.

Just curious Gitfinger, does the F7 card update any other features or software?

Yes, it looks like there are a lot of people doing this, there was even one just selling a download link to the files for £28.99! I would never go down the route of trying to make money from a copied card but I think when you spend nearly 20k on a car the manufacturer shouldn't be trying to make a load more money off you either!

I haven't really had time to have a good look at it yet, just went for a quick drive to check it was working ok and that the hazard notification was being shown and 'caution' announced. Then again, I didn't use the F6 much so I probably wouldn't spot any differences to features or software!

100% agree mate, it's just blatant greed.  Imagine spending £40K on a top spec Vignale Mondeo and then having to "pay" for map updates. :taz:

Annoying when you get free updates on a cheap Sat nav from Halfords. I did read Ford Australia were giving free updates with services. Would encourage customers to use dealers too.

It’s down to your morals really.

Many people download the files from one of several websites, copy them to an SD card and use the android app to unlock it. It’s a five minute job.

I can’t do that because of my personal situation and I’ll have to buy it properly but I suspect many will save money.

I seem to recall reading that Ford addressed this with Sync 3, in that it will offer free map updates for the first 5 years.  They also offer FOC Sync 3 user installable updates via download that don't require a chargeable dealer visit as with Sync 2.

That's said I don't know if Ford has officially released a FOC F7 for Sync 3 in the UK yet, but the data is/was available for free download from Ford servers and I updated in April.

Now how and when the updates will be offi
