Hi guys, i need advice on tyre sizes please. I have the std 17" rims on my focus with 205/50*17 tyres. Will 215/45*17 fit on the std rims, or is that a stupid question?

It fully depends on the width of the wheels. On the Focus MK2/MK2.5 Ford used 17 Inch wheels with a width of 6.5 and 7 inch.

If the wheels are 7 Inch wide the 215-45-17 tyres can be used without any problems. However 225-45-17 tyres will be a better option because the diameter of this size is almost identical to the 205-50-17 tyres.

If the wheels are 6.5 Inch wide I would stick to the original tyre size.

The following tyre widths can be installed on a 7 Inch wide wheel:

195 mm
205 mm
215 mm
225 mm

225-45-17 tyres are a well known cheaper alternative for the original 205-50-17 tyres. However alternative tyre sizes are not approved by Ford and are not listed in the European type approval of the car. The usage of non approved tyre sizes is not allowed in many European countries. Some countries require an additional individual approval. I do not know the UK regulationsabout this subject so you better check before buying tyres in an alternative size.
