Dot matrix with window tint issue

Featured Replies

Hi guys I’ve just had my windows tinted and in places there is a soldering on the dot matrix, I have been advised by the fitted to rub the line in a couple of days.

Im just wondering if anyone has any other advise for the focus mk3.5 estate specifically.

Sounds like the guy who did your windows was lazy, if it doesn't stick when it's first applied then it's never going to do it after a few days once exposed to the elements. Very common to see this issue though and makes the whole job look awful as you have air bubbles surrounding each dot.

You can try what he says in the hope it goes away, but I'd be looking at taking it back and getting a refund. Someone decent enough should be able to fill in the area. I know of people who have used glue before now to fill in the air pockets to make it look more factory. Another solution is a vinyl strip, but it's not easy to get a seamless transition and if you couldn't tint the windows yourself in the first place then you won't be able to put the vinyl on properly.

yeah wrong people will leave this ugly frame.

I have noticed aftermarket screens often get the black dots round the interior mirror as an external addon, rather than in the sandwich of the two glass elements.  It mean nothing will ever stick ( its a fault of the replacement glass, being of an inferior design / build) thus you can't put a camera / speed detectors there, they just fall off

Poor work and poor excuse. You’ve been had. Get a refund or them to sort it. As others have said it won’t get better and will only look worse over time.

this is basically how mine looks. This wasn’t the company who did mine however.

I must stress it’s only noticeable in certain lights

I had mine done on mk 3 estate. There really is not a lot you can do about the issue with dot matrix. Most cars have it. The only way round it is to either sand down the matrix b4  films applied or get a small sharp chisel and s ape off. Neither options ideal. I took back and bloke ran a finger round it again and it dosnt look that bad. Look at others. They wont be perfect either. After a while you will forget all about it and live with the issue.

That’s the thing don’t like the idea of sanding near to the heater wires.

Mine’s the same, and as someone else said, you’ll learn to live with it. TBH, I now wish I’d have had factory fitted privacy glass, but the deal I got at the time was too good to pass on.
