Horn problem

Featured Replies

Hi all - bit of a hard to explain issue but here goes:

So my horn was working fine, and still does work fine when I press the centre of the steering wheel in.

I changed my clockspring a little while back (bought a stolen recovered so had some issues and fixes). The airbag now seems to sit a little differently in the steering wheel (airbag light was on before, not anymore). When I press the horn it, it works, but then the metal contacts get stuck in the wheel, so whenever I steer it causes them to contact and the horn sets off. The only way to stop it is to pull the airbag out with my fingers and it pops about 1/4 inch out of the wheel and stops the contact.

Anyone know what the thin metal bit that goes round inside the wheel to touch on the two contacts is called? and whether or not it's built into any part? (clockspring / wheel)?

I can't find a pic of the bit of metal I'm talking about - but attached is the pic of the back of a wheel and the two brass dots that this metal touches to create the circuit.

Thanks

Joe
