Installing a double din into Mk3 2013 Dashboard?

Featured Replies

Hey Folks,

1st post, be gentle! I've got a 2013 MK3 Focus with the Sync 1.1 Dashboard that has the small blue & black non touch screen at the top. I'm wanting to swap the dash out so I can put a double din Apple Carplay unit in and I've been lead to believe I need something like this:

Aside from that, I've read mixed reports on how the wee top screen will function after the swap. Some have said it will still work, others have said it will just become a dumb clock. My car has parking sensors and the parallel park assist, both which have visual feedback on the little screen. I'm not wanting to lose that functionality, but I'm not sure if I will or not.

Has anyone else done a similar upgrade?

I did it on my MK3 Focus when I had it, the top screen will still function but setting the date and time can be a pain in the bottom and you have to be quick, you will still get the reverse sensors view and front if you have them. also that one you're looking at is for the advanced display, if yours looks like the picture below you have the basic display.

Get the one that is for you, your screen will still continue to function when in use but other than that it's literally just a dumb clock

Yeah mine is that dash (althought the fans at the bottom are different, I don't think that matters). The sensors for all of the different parking toys all show on the top screen. When you say setting the time is a pain because you have to be fast, how do you mean?

Because when setting the time you have to enter the menu by holding either the OK button on the steering wheel or by holding the voice control button back, the menu opens no problem but if you don't change it in so many seconds you have to do it all over again as it some what times out, but once you know where the settings are and can do it fast you'll be fine haha. Fans at the bottom don't make a difference either.

You'll only be changing the time a few times anyway so upgrading the stereo is worth it

Nice one. Thanks. Just need to find a good looking replacement fascia now then!

It's worth noting that the universal patch lead is useless and a massive headache, get the patch lead for the specific stereo you're buying
