Insurance Company Wants Driving Licence

Is this a new thing? Did insurance for the other car last night and got all the emails sent through today. 

 

They're asking for driving licence check codes? and copies of photo card licences. 

 

Never had to supply a copy of a licence before to get insurance.

    Just renewed my Mothers insurance and all they asked for was her licence number.
    Usually only car hire companies ask for the 'check code' so they can view your online licence endorsement records.
    Which insurer is it?

    When I use comparison sites it does say if you want to give your licence number. By the looks of it some insurers want that. Don't know if it could be prove of who's driving the car

    Hi.

    This is not a new thing to be honest but not all insurers ask for this information. Due to the every increasing fraud issues around car insurance you will find more and more insurer will ask for more documentation. It's around trying to validate the policy holder and drivers details correctly.
