Focus Mk2.5 rear number plate screws

Featured Replies

I want to swap the plates on my mk2.5 focus but the rear plate screws seem to be firmly rusted in place. Does anyone know the length/thread size of these screws? IIRC they screw in to threaded inserts that are fitted in the boot lid? (Or they are on mk1.5s!)

They are indeed screwed into aluminium rivnuts.
I don't believe that any standard length screw is used tbh.
Had it on my mk 2 Focus, screws corroded to the aluminium and when attempting to remove I ended up ripping the rivnuts out.
I'd just chop the screw heads off and fit a new plate with sticky pads.

Sent from my SM-G965F (S9+)

the way i did it. Used drill to drill the head off enough to get number plate off. then put mole grips on remainder and pulled about until it pulled the captive nut/rivet type thing out. then I put bolt in the hole thrpugh the new platesand put nut on the back of hole (the other side of boot lid).  I don't like sticky pads. How many cars do you see with plates coming off that way. Also more likely that someone will (I am not saying it is likely but it is more likely) pull your plates off as they can see they are only held on with sticky pads as no screw heads.
